Terrace with outdoor dining and sea views in Benalmádena

Benalmádena is one of the most complete destinations on the Costa del Sol: beach, marina, mountains, culture and something for every age, all around 15 minutes from Málaga airport. Here are the 10 things we recommend to our guests.

1. Take the cable car up Mount Calamorro

The Benalmádena cable car climbs from Arroyo de la Miel to the top of Mount Calamorro. At the top there are short walking routes and views over the whole coast that, on clear days, reach as far as Africa.

2. Stroll around Puerto Marina

Benalmádena's marina, with its distinctive architecture, is perfect for a walk, dinner by the water or a drink in the evening. It's the liveliest part of town.

3. Visit the Enlightenment Stupa

One of the largest Buddhist stupas in Europe, high above Benalmádena. The building is spectacular, and so are the views from its terrace.

4. Discover Colomares Castle

A highly original monument dedicated to Christopher Columbus, mixing several architectural styles. Ideal for a short visit and some great photos.

5. Wander around Benalmádena Pueblo

The original white village, with narrow streets, flowers and viewpoints. Highly recommended for a quiet afternoon and dinner on one of its terraces.

6. A beach day at Santa Ana or Torrebermeja

Lively beaches with a promenade and beach bars. If you'd prefer somewhere quieter, Carvajal beach, between Benalmádena and Fuengirola, is usually less crowded.

7. Selwo Marina and Sea Life (with children)

Two great family days out: Selwo Marina, with dolphins, penguins and birds, and the Sea Life aquarium in Puerto Marina.

8. The Butterfly Park

A tropical garden with hundreds of free-flying butterflies, in a Thai-style building. Something different and very photogenic.

9. Parque de la Paloma

A large town park with a lake, green spaces and free-roaming animals, perfect for a walk or some time with the kids.

10. Nearby day trips

From Benalmádena you can quickly reach Málaga (historic centre, Alcazaba, Picasso Museum), Mijas Pueblo and Fuengirola.
